LAND ARTEN COUNTRY PORTE DE GASCOGNE

The Pays Portes de Gascogne invites artists to propose works talking about the environment. The proposals designed make us think, observe, pause, contemplate, and make sense of our environment.
Heirs of the land art movement, the works which mark this route were created with the complicity of the inhabitants of the territory. Rent an electrically assisted bike and set off to explore the area!

This route departing from Samatan allows you to discover the Yané in Villefranche, which means “roof” in Japanese. A large range of blond wood placed on the hillside, the monumental work is revealed along a hiking path which embraces the village of Villefranche. This protective roof invites you to take the time to look at the surrounding landscapes differently.

In Saint-Elix d'Astarac, Kazé is “wind” in Japanese. This imposing sculpture of woven branches evokes a cyclone trapped in the forest. Light and majestic, it symbolizes all the strength and power of the wind. Nearby, a clearing with a magnificent three-hundred-year-old oak tree invites you to take a break and let yourself dream.

Works created by Teruhisa Suzuki, a Japanese sculptor living and working in France for 30 years.
