Domaine de la Higuère Vineyards Esquiro
Since 1784, nine generations have succeeded one another at Domaine de la Higuère to cultivate our family vineyard with respect for nature.
A pioneer in the policy of sustainable viticulture, the Esquiro family works its vineyard with reasoned protection.
Our vines
Our vines are planted all around the estate to avoid too much transport, mixing and oxidation of the musts. The grape varieties are varied: Merlot, Cabernet-Sauvignon, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Muscat, Colombard, Gros Manseng and Alicante. Our soils are clay-limestone with also a little boulbène.
The climate (similar to the Bordeaux climate) is mild and humid with an oceanic influence . It is ideal for the production of red, rosé and white wines.
All our red wines are aged in oak for better aging.
Our cellar welcomes tourists all year round for tastings and during the summer our numerous interns will show you around the Domaine.
Our history
Located in the heart of Gascony, in the Gers (between Auch and Lectoure), the Domaine de la Higuère is a building over 239 years old belonging to the Esquiro family. In the small village of Mirepoix, cradle of the Batz family better known as d'Artagnan, we produce and sell our wine from generation to generation. At the creation of the appellation of local wines from the Côtes de Gascogne in 1974, Messrs. Esquiro Paul and Jean were the pioneers in selling their wine in bottles, followed by David in 1997 who replaced his uncle
